One of the worst things you can do to your metabolism is to skip breakfast.
In fact, “sumo wrestlers wake early, usually about five in the morning, skip breakfast, and engage in about five hours of strenuous exercise. Then the bathe and eat their main meal of the day. After this huge meal, they spend the next several hours napping. Upon wakening, they have dinner again and then go back to sleep. The next day, they wake and do the same thing all over again and do it for years on end.” (1)
This sumo wrestler example shows a perfect way to gain weight easily. Sometimes the best way to learn how to eat is to look at the worst way to eat.
Not eating breakfast slows down metabolism and contributes to obesity.
“It’s estimated that 15% of white Americans, 70% of black Americans, 90% of Asian Americans and almost all Native Americans have trouble digesting lactose.”
Have you ever experienced gas, bloating, cramps, runny nose or diarrhea after consuming dairy products? If you have noticed a correlation with dairy consumption and any of the symptoms listed above, I would first suggest a temporary elimination diet. There are several tests to determine if you have trouble digesting lactose by blood, breath or genetic testing. However, before jumping into any formal tests you can simply eliminate all dairy sources from your diet for seven days. On day eight, reintroduce dairy into your diet. For the next three days your body will go through a delayed immune response, meaning if you have symptoms they will be happening over the course of seventy two hours. Do not eat any dairy products on days nine, ten and eleven as you are testing to see if you have any delayed immune response. Please note you may have additional sensitivities causing similar symptoms such as gluten, soy, corn or nightshades for example. Ultimately, it is good idea to go on an elimination diet of several foods you may think are suspect. When eliminating multiple foods from your diet, only reintroduce one at a time and watch for a delayed immune response. [click to continue…]
