Calm your Nervous System with this Unique Blissful Bathing Experience
Sometimes it can be stressful to think about ways to relax and revitalize yourself. Let your mind kick back and follow one of my favorite relaxation strategies I call blissful bathing.
Things you’ll need:
- Epsom Salt
- Baking Soda
- Lavender Oil
Optional things which are essential:
- Candles
- Relaxing Music
Details on how to deepen your experience:
Selecting peaceful music containing no lyrics as they can be distracting. If you don’t have a built in or portable music system in your bathroom, I recommend using a laptop. You can stream great music these days for free. I like using www.pandora.com. Otherwise, if you want a phenomenal 20 minute continuous music piece called for timing purposes I recommend “The Longing, by Constance Demby”.
(Most hot baths should not exceed 20 minutes)
For candles, use calming colors such as blue, purple or green.
You can get epsom salt, baking soda, and lavender oil all in one trip at your local health food store. If you live near a Whole Foods, you will be able to find these three ingredients.
Healthy benefits of the blissful bath:
- A 20-minute hot bath will cause you to sweat and release toxins through the skin.
- Magnesium from the epsom salt will get absorbed, giving you relaxation benefits amongst many others.
- The smell of lavender slows down the nervous system, improves sleep quality, promotes relaxation and lifts mood in people suffering from sleep disorders.
- Baking soda in your bath will act to alkalinize the body which promotes an ideal pH for healing, detoxification, and optimal cellular function.
Regular bathing in such a wonderful recipe will help build up your reserves, which increases the amount of energy you’ll have to expend on your personal training workouts! The average American does not counter balance high energy expending activities with rebuilding and relaxing ones. Print this page out and post it on your bathroom cabinet if you need a kind reminder to ensure you do it.
